Baker's Buddy — Privacy Policy

Baker's Buddy ("the app", "we", "us") is a mobile application that helps home bakers track ingredient costs and recipe pricing. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Account information. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name from Google. We use this solely to identify your account and associate your data with you.

App data you create. Your pantry items (ingredient names, costs, units) and recipes (names, ingredients, labor times, pricing settings) are stored on your device and, if you enable Cloud Sync, in Google Firebase Firestore. This data is yours — we never use it for advertising or share it with third parties.

Crash reports. The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to automatically report technical errors. Crash reports contain device model, OS version, app version, and a stack trace of what the app was doing when it crashed. They do not contain your recipes, pantry items, or personal information.

Analytics. The app uses Firebase Analytics to record anonymous usage events (e.g., "a recipe was created", "cloud sync was toggled"). No personally identifiable information is attached to these events.

How We Use Your Information

To save and sync your recipes and pantry items across devices (when Cloud Sync is enabled)
To identify your account so your data is kept separate from other users
To fix bugs and crashes using error reports
To understand general usage patterns so we can improve the app

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with any third party except the service providers listed below, who process it solely on our behalf.

Third-Party Services

Baker's Buddy uses the following Google / Firebase services:

Firebase Authentication — handles sign-in with Google
Cloud Firestore — stores your data in the cloud when Cloud Sync is enabled
Firebase Crashlytics — collects anonymous crash reports
Firebase Analytics — collects anonymous usage events

These services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored locally on your device in the app's private storage, which is protected by Android's app sandboxing. If Cloud Sync is enabled, your data is also stored in Firebase Firestore, secured by Firebase security rules that ensure only your authenticated account can read or write your data.

You can disable Cloud Sync at any time in Settings. When disabled, no data is sent to or read from the cloud — the app operates entirely offline.

Your Rights and Choices

Guest mode. You can use the app without signing in. In guest mode, no data ever leaves your device.
Cloud Sync toggle. You control whether your data syncs to the cloud. You can turn it off at any time in Settings.
Delete your data. You can delete all cloud data from Settings → Cloud Sync → Delete Cloud Data. You can delete your account entirely from Settings → Account → Delete Account, which removes all your data from our servers.
Export your data. You can export all your recipes and pantry items as a JSON file from Settings → Import/Export at any time.

Account Deletion & Data Deletion Options

If you wish to delete your data or your account, we provide the following options:

In-App Options: Open the Baker's Buddy app and go to Settings.
- To delete only your cloud-synced recipes and pantry data (keeping your account active), go to Cloud Sync and select Delete Cloud Data.
- To delete your entire account registration and all associated cloud data, go to Account and select Delete Account.
Web Portal Options: If you have already uninstalled the app or cannot access your device, you can perform both of these actions securely online using our Account & Data Deletion Portal. By signing in with your Google account, you can select whether to delete your cloud data only or permanently delete your entire account profile.

Data Deleted: Upon account deletion, the following data is permanently wiped from our systems: your Google authentication identifier, email address, display name, all saved pantry ingredients (names, costs, units), and all custom recipes (ingredients, pricing parameters, labor hours, and calculations). We do not retain any of this data after deletion.

Children's Privacy

Baker's Buddy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
